INVINCIBLE GRACE
Surely a chariot paved with everlasting love and covered with atoning blood, axle treed with omnipotence and conveyed on the wheels of eternal election, is strong enough to carry a soul to Abraham’s bosom without the pliable spring of an arm of flesh. Lean on the bosom of His love till you get home: looking unto Jesus and not the law. The law gives commands but does not give strength, life, or willingness to perform them. The law always condemns but never pardons, knowing no mercy. To place ourselves again under the law, is to withdraw ourselves from the doctrines of grace (the love and mercy of God as distinguished from His justice). In proportion, as we make our obedience to the law the means of our salvation, we lose our peace, our strength, and our joy, because we have forgotten that Jesus is the end of the old covenant law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. He puts us into the position of having kept the law. He relieves the conscience of the law. There is no end to the new-covenant love-law as long as the Christian remains on earth. He says, “I am the Lord; I change not.” Therefore to say, “He loves me today,” is to say, “He always loved me and always will.” This is sound reasoning and the truth. Trust alone in His wonderful name!
